Quick Reads - Quick Reads are exciting, short, fast-paced books by leading best-selling authors. The Quick Reads scheme is a major new initiative from leading publishers, booksellers and writers. The first 12 Quick Reads were published on World Book Day, 2 March 2006. 10 New Quick Reads were published on World Book Day 2009. All Quick Reads are £2.99. A Good Read - BBC Radio 4 programme that discusses books. Use the 'listen again' option to catch up with the latest broadcast. Bookclub - BBC Radio 4's own monthly book club. James Naughtie and a group of readers talk to leading authors about their best known novels. The bookclub site also offers some advice and tips on setting up your own book club. Open Book - A programme on BBC Radio 4 that spotlights new fiction and non-fiction, picks out the best of the paperbacks, talks to authors and publishers, and unearths lost masterpieces. Recently broadcast interviews can be heard using the 'listen again' option. World Book Club - A programme broadcast by the BBC World Service. The site includes a large number of interviews with the authors that can be listened to including Margaret Attwood, Tracy Chevalier and Ben Okri The Book Trust - A very interesting site with suggestions for adult and children's' books. The site has lots of links to publishers and book-related events. There is a monthly recommended read for book clubs. Special Book Trust site for Childrens' books offering suggestions for children from young babies to teenagers. The Orange Prize for Fiction - several of our reads have been nominated or won this annual award. http://www.orangeprize.co.uk/ Penguin Books Readers Group Site - An interesting site with ideas for reading groups, librarians' top recommendations, group discounts and a message board. Richard & Judy's Book Club - A book club tied in with a Channel 4 TV show. Book Aid International - Book Aid International works in 18 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Palestine, providing over half a million books and journals each year to libraries, hospitals, refugee camps and schools. Book Crossing - a quirky idea to spread books around the world Book Group Info - a UK site dedicated to providing information to Reading Groups - appears to have Arts Council Funding. The BBC's Big Read project took place in April 2003. Find out which book won the most votes and see the others in the Top 100 list Book Group Online - an online forum for discussions on particular books, genres etc. Founded by Bill Matthews and Luise Finan. Bill Matthews has been a writer for twenty years, working mostly in television and radio. Along with Simon Bullivant, he created BBC1’s long-running comedy sports quiz They Think It’s All Over, which he also produced for a number of series. He was also one of the devisers of BBC2’s comedy pop quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Luise Finan is a lifecoach. Oprah's Book Group - Oprah Winfrey's influential US book group. Reading Group Guides - A large site with over 1500 guides for reading groups featuring ideas for discussion and questions about each book. Penguin Books - information about newly published books, fiction and non-fiction. Includes some first chapters to give you a taster. Pan Macmillan - new books published by Pan, Picador and Boxtree etc. Scholastic - A children's publisher that runs five age-specific book clubs and offers discounts to schools.
